We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: when it comes to our motto, “Print Your Mind”, we mean it. If you can think it, we can print it — and it’s precisely that attitude that lands us cool jobs like this Scion FR-S partial wrap. But how exactly does a wrap like this come to life? Let’s talk about it.
First, let’s get us up to speed! Anime wrapped cars? Why?! Because...Itasha baby! Now you’re probably wondering...what is “Itasha” you ask? In reality the word “Itasha” is more or less a slang Japanese term which can be interpreted as “Painful Car” or “Painful to look at” which kind of makes sense, loud and busy graphics on a lot of times, very flashy cars. Don’t get me wrong though, although this may sound a bit much for some. The japanese tuners always find a way to make it “cool”. Therefore creating a trend that’s become quite popular in recent years. You can see the itasha style on drift cars, race cars, and even exotics to name a few.
With this project our customer wanted to do just that. He came to us with a premade wrap, but was counting on us to install it. And of course we sure did. We don’t normally see a lot of this from our day to day wraps so it was definitely fun. The FR-S and the anime graphics really set this car apart. Seeing it drive around with the bright orange hue really makes you look twice.
At a glance, the design looks seamless. That’s because the sides were printed on just one huge sheet of vinyl each. Our installers had to maneuver the vinyl around the contours of the car in a way that didn’t distort the image. The material covering edges like the gas cap and door handles were precisely cut and tucked out of sight. This made sure the flow of the design remained uninterrupted and clean.
Taking a look at the finished product, the “Itasha” style really brought out the looks of this FR-S. If you’re looking to do the same, let us know!
